What Spain requires on your packaging
Legal basis: Royal Decree 1055/2022 on packaging and packaging waste. Spain’s regime pairs on-pack marking with a producer register. Getting the label right while skipping the registration leaves you just as exposed as the other way round.
Material marking
Identification of the packaging material on each component, so the consumer can sort it correctly.
Separate collection
Indication of the collection stream the component belongs to.
Producer registration
Entry in the Register of Product Producers, plus membership of a collective EPR scheme.
Spanish language
Consumer-facing information given in Spanish for the Spanish market.

Common mistakes with Spain packaging rules
- Treating RD 1055/2022 as a future obligation when the marking and registration duties already bite.

- Overlooking reusable packaging, which carries its own indication requirements.

Does RD 1055/2022 apply to a non-Spanish brand selling online into Spain?
Placing packaged product on the Spanish market generally brings you within scope, including through distance sales. Being established elsewhere does not remove the obligation.
What is the difference between the marking and the registration?
The marking is what appears on your pack so consumers can sort it. The registration is an administrative duty as a producer of packaging. They are separate, and you need both.
